Earlier this month, I had the incredible honor of representing the Virginia Farm Bureau Women’s Committee at the American Farm Bureau Conference in San Antonio, Texas. This annual gathering brought together over 5,000 individuals, all passionate about agriculture, community, and the future of farming. The energy was palpable, and being surrounded by so many like-minded individuals was both inspiring and invigorating.
Our trip was a perfect blend of education, networking, and a touch of Texas charm. We kicked things off with a tour of the vibrant city of San Antonio, soaking in its rich history and culture. A highlight of our excursions was visiting the historic Knibbe Ranch, where we learned firsthand about their farming operations. It was fascinating to see how agriculture thrives in different environments and to hear the unique challenges and innovations from fellow farmers.
Our Women’s Committee group, Virginia Farm Bureau President and the American Farm Bureau President were able to package meals for “The Outreach Program. Ending Hunger. Enriching Lives.” We packaged 3,000 meals in an hours time. Giving back to the hungry and helping the community.
The conference itself was packed with informative sessions covering a wide range of topics. We delved into critical issues like weed control, cybersecurity, and market dynamics, gaining valuable insights to bring back to our own communities. These sessions not only broadened our knowledge but also sparked meaningful conversations about the future of farming and how we can adapt to ever-changing landscapes.
One of the most uplifting aspects of the conference was celebrating the achievements of women leaders in agriculture. The sessions dedicated to recognizing and empowering women were filled with stories of resilience, leadership, and community impact. It was a reminder of the vital role women play in shaping the future of agriculture.
Of course, no trip to San Antonio would be complete without some fun! We enjoyed a delightful dinner cruise along the iconic River Walk, where we shared stories and laughter against the backdrop of twinkling city lights. A visit to the historic Alamo added a touch of Texas history to our journey, reminding us of the enduring spirit of perseverance and courage.
Attending the American Farm Bureau Conference was a truly enriching experience. It reinforced the importance of connection, continuous learning, and celebrating the diverse voices that make up our agricultural community. I returned to Virginia with a renewed sense of purpose, inspired by the people I met and the stories I heard. I am grateful for the opportunity to represent the Virginia Farm Bureau Women’s Committee and look forward to applying these experiences to support and grow our farming communities.
